Sunny War

Sunny War is the singer-songwriter Sydney Ward, a folk artist and an outstanding songwriter who writes sharp songs with clear melodies, and a sense of openness with respect to style. She has been drawing on blues quite a bit since the beginning, occasionally dipping into jazz and bossa nova, and recently bringing the gospel sound in as well. Perhaps more to the point though is the garage type folk punk work she has done with her sideband, Anus Kings. Her vocals are nuanced, and guitar work is pretty nimble, with nice finger picking action that gives her music a steady forward motion whether she is playing up-tempo or has slowed it down. It is consistently engaging music with good variety and high level of song crafting.
