Brigid Mae Power is an indie folk singer and songwriter whose music has very strong traditional Irish folk motifs in the vocals and the melodies, but also keeps old school country music within reach, especially when she brings in the steel guitar. Her songs are usually low to mid tempo ballads that she delivers in a floating, drifting style that demands that the listener slow down and take their time to soak it all in. This is generally elegiac music that comes from an intensely personal place with lyrics that reflect on the artist's own life. Her voice is very reminiscent of Sandy Denny's, and she is just powerful as a singer, and can be just as direct. She often works with a backing band that has the good sense of keeping it low key and staying out of the way.
