Blue Lake

Blue Lake is the Copenhagen-based Texan composer and multi-instrumentalist Jason Dungan, who creates often sprawling instrumental musical narratives, typically working with string instruments. His music has some ambient qualities. It can be fairly minimalistic, pushing it into the direction of hypnotic repetition at times. It is also mostly acoustically driven, contemplative and experimental, although it frequently makes use of electronic framing to help explore different textures. His 2023 release Sun Arcs also owes a great deal to old school folk music, in particular, Appalachian traditions that help establish a pastoral feel that is remarkably central to the album. Otherwise, his work tends to be more percussive and clangy in nature, especially in his early recordings.
