Beshken is the stage name used by Ben Shirken, a producer whose work originated in the house and techno styles but moved on to a more layered and sophisticated form of electronic music since then. His current work brings together tentative and melancholic vocal melodies, some light crooning, chords that are somewhat jazz inspired, and drums that often swing or go all in on syncopation in the drum 'n' bass style. His 2022 album, Pantomime, brought on a much more organic sound in good part because of his use of live musicians in the recording. Prior to this shift, his work was fairly plugged in to the techno world, with tight dance beats, electronic percussions, and elaborate synth work, and falsetto vocals working R&B type melodies into the music.
