Benny Sings is the stage name for singer-songwriter Tim van Berkestijn, who seems to really really love the late '70s to mid '80s funk-oriented bright and sparkly jazzy pop sound. It is the style of music he has been locked in to going back to his debut album in 2002, Champagne People. He has the upbeat piano, gently funky bass, the accenting horns, sax solos, all of which completely capture the pop sound of that period (also, gotta love the '80s esthetics on those album covers). His songs are as catchy as anything that came from that particular amalgamation of pop jazz and soft rock. The music is utterly charming, nostalgic, vintage, chill, relaxing, and everything one would expect because Sings is a terrific songwriter who can conjure up earwormy tunes like it is nobody's business. Hip-hop oriented beats occasionally make appearance as a bonus.
