Awen Ensemble

Awen Ensemble is a Leeds based collection of musicians from Welsh, Scottish, and Irish background who bring Celtic folk tradition into jazz. They do so in a gentle fashion, in a relaxed approach that takes the temperature down a couple of notches as they produce music that is highly evocative of the countryside and pastoral landscapes. The jazz component in their work has a spiritual angle, though more in the at-peace type of spirituality than the in-search-of type.  There is also a vocal component as well. The band often builds on a chamber music type texture, which gives off classic Nordic jazz vibes, though they sometimes also drift slightly in the Celtic ambient direction when the mood strikes.
