Art Brut is a five piece art punk band whose music has remained pretty consistent since they broke out in 2004. Their original ragged sound may have become more polished and melodic over the years, but their overall punk esthetics and playfulness have not changed at all. The band is led by Eddie Argos, a one of a kind artist who speak-sings with the kind of all-out gusto and joy that one does not often find in the punk or the post-punk world. His songs take on aspects of ordinary life (and music business) with a lot of sardonic wit and a generous use of exclamation points. The band, on the other hand, is spot on throughout. They play with the same spirit that reflects Argos' no-nonsense approach: they are very effective, right to the point, and reserving the right to insert a little wink somewhere. Their second album It's A Bit Complicated (2007) is not available on streaming platforms.
