Anoushka Shankar
Outline
Anoushka Shankar is a sitar virtuoso whose music keeps one foot in Indian traditions, and another in the genre agnostic western music that is in turn an amalgamation of classical, ambient, jazz, and electronic music. Her father is the legendary musician Ravi Shankar, who casts an enormous shadow as a major ambassador of Indian music for western audiences (especially in the '60s and '70s). She started out in her father's circle initially, and her first couple of releases were focused on Indian classical music. Over time, she moved towards bridging her musical heritage with western forms and exploring a unique sound that she still embraces, except when she occasionally revisits her roots along the way. She has also been fairly active in the world of movie score and genre-crossing collaborations as well.

Her father is the sitar master Ravi Shankar, who played a key role in the introduction of the instrument and Indian classical music esthetics to western audiences, with great impact on George Harrison's music, among others.
Norah Jones, who is also a daughter of Ravi Shankar, is her half sister.
