Afrosonics

With key members from Nigeria and Gabon, Afrosonics are a Boise, Idaho based band that takes the rhythms and melodic flow of Afrobeat as its base and grafts on it a variety of styles including rock and funk. This results in a propulsive sound that is nimble on its feet, and with strong throwback quality that comes across in their arrangements whether it is in the form of an occasional venture into '70s pop jazz or the hints of heartland rock motifs mixed with that classic Santana feel on some of their numbers. The interplay between the western and the African components of their music creates an interesting tension in the presentation, particularly on the vocals. The presence of some recent members with a variety of national backgrounds in their line-up contributes additional flavors to their songs.
