Parcels
Outline
Parcels are a dance-oriented synth pop band that is originally from Byron Bay, Australia but is currently based in Berlin. They are a fairly eclectic band whose genre identification becomes more elusive the closer one listens to their work: they clearly start off from a disco base, from revival disco along the lines of Daft Punk to its retro variety including '70s Bee Gees and Chaka Khan, among others. They also have some neo-soul bits in there, as well as solid funk lines, a touch of jazz, and lush vocal harmonies handled in vintage style. They go as far as to insert some classically inspired accompaniment parts and swelling violins dispersed in and around their music, along with a little ambient music, as well. Their songs are rich and catchy; they are delivered with plenty of attention to detail.
