The Front Bottoms is the New Jersey duo singer-guitarist Brian Sella and drummer Mathew Uychich, who play a particular combination of indie rock, pop punk, and emo that has remained fairly consistent in style since their self-titled debut album in 2011. On the instrumental side, they gravitate more towards indie rock with pop punk flavors, where it is also possible to detect subtle folk accents every now and then, especially in their early work. With respect to their vocal melodies, though, there are strong emo tones in Sella's his melodic phrasing and delivery. He has plenty to talk about as a songwriter, for sure, and he also has a way to doing so in a tuneful way. A special and well-deserved hat tip has to also go to the fact that they have been releasing EPs named after their grandmothers since Rose in 2014.
