Federale
Outline
Federale is a band led by Collin Hegna, the bassist of Brian Jonestown Massacre, a volatile band that has been exploring underground tinged psych rock going back to '90s. By contrast, Federale has been the outfit for Hegna that allows him to take a deep dive into what may affectionately be called the "spaghetti western sound", a sort of gothic, dark western that comes with a particular twang, and a mixture of surf guitar and mariachi tones. This was particularly strong on their initial albums, complete with the classic bull whip effects and whistled tunes that take audiences to the world of Ennio Morricone soundtracks. The band's more recent work tends to deviate from that style to a some extent, drawing a great deal from indie and country motifs, though their dark western roots still regularly peek through those layers.
Charles Parsson, Cowboy Crew, Steven Lynn, and all that glorious Ennio Morricone western sound.
