De Temps Antan
Outline
De Temps Antan is a trio of musicians who play traditional Québécois folk using traditional instrumentation, presenting a sound built around an accordion, a fiddle, and a guitar, and foot stomping for percussion, plus an emphatic call-and-response structure. The band takes a lively path, keeping it upbeat and rowdy, even exuberant on quite a few occasions. The music fits right in as a part of the North American folk environment, with an audible kinship to old school country, cajun, and bluegrass traditions. There are also strands that connect it to the folk music of especially the northern and western regions of France, and a Celtic thread woven into its fabric. Members of the band are quite strong as instrumentalists, which makes their work even more captivating.
