The Claudettes
Outline
The Claudettes are a Chicago-based, piano-driven band that combines blues, rock'n roll, vaudeville, and cabaret music into one big ball of uptempo, retro romp. The band is led by the remarkable Johnny Iguana on the piano, along with Berit Ulseth's soulful and robust vocals. The band has gone through some personnel changes over the years, including a short stint by Yana Atim on the vocals at some point. They were originally a piano/drums duo between Iguana and Michael Caskey, mostly turning out instrumental pieces that were anchored in blues and boogie-woogie traditions. They began to inch their way towards a more vaudevillian and pop sound starting with the arrival of Ulseth in 2018's Dance Scandal at the Gymnasium!, who was able to instantly give the band a second center of gravity and a good musical partner for Iguana to play off of.
