Cedric Burnside is a blues singer, guitarist, and drummer who comes from a family of blues royalty: His grandfather was the great R.L. Burnside, his father was drummer Calvin Jones, his brother Cody and uncle Gary were also blues musicians. He is one of the currently active artists carrying on the traditions of North Mississippi blues (aka Hill Country blues), which is different from the blues that emerged from the Mississippi Delta in the way that it tends to be more focused on the groove, uses beats that would normally be considered atypical for blues, and has an affinity towards polyrhythmic drums. All that history aside, Burnside also happens to be a remarkable guitar player and drummer with serious chops, a gifted songwriter, and a captivating performer. His love for the blues is pretty hard to resist.
