Big Something
Outline
Big Something is a six-piece band from North Carolina that plays rock music mostly along conventional lines but with a strong emphasis on jamming. They have a solid rhythm section, including a deliciously funky bass, two guitars, a keyboard and a saxophone, and a whole lot of passion that colors their improvisation and the grooves they maintain. With songs that range from pop pieces to guitar-driven old school shredders, their music is far from monolithic. It is also consistently strong, melodically. Their studio recordings have become somewhat more structured over the years, and their sound, tighter, but the band continues to fully engage the material and bring a lot of ideas to the table, and spend time exploring them. The songs naturally tend to be longer than the usual 3-minute radio standard, but time kinda flies when they get going.
