Sam Wilkes
Outline
Sam Wilkes is a composer and multi-instrumentalist (though primarily a bassist) whose solo career centers around a hard-to-define sound that is a mixture of spacey, mellow, slightly trippy jazz and what can only be inadequately described as ambient-adjacent, trip-hop happy contemporary chamber pop. His music is gently experimental, flowing in an understated manner for the most part, where production ideas are just as central to his work as his compositions and remarkable skills on the bass. He collaborates frequently with Sam Gendel, who turns out to have his own idiosyncratic path. He has also been playing in a series of bands, such as Scary Pockets, where he explores the power of the funk, as well as the Los Angeles based funky jazz outfit Knower.

He is a member of the funky cover band Scary Pockets, and has worked quite a bit with Knower.
