Magna Carda

Magna Carda is an Austin based hip-hop duo Megz Kelli and Dougie Do, whose music continues to explore the intersection of jazz, hip-hop, and R&B, where the grooves are smooth, the jazz is cool, and the rapping is subdued. Kelli delivers her lines in a manner close to spoken word or poetry reading, which has acquired a more conversational tone over time. Her voice has a calm and quiet quality that gives their music an additional intimate feel. Do, on the other hand, adds a lot of depth to the music with his often fascinating and complex arrangements but tends to step out of the way and not share the spotlight with Kelli's words. His rhythms, chords, and all the understated jazz touch he brings to their music may be backgrounded a little, but they are also essential ingredients to the band's sound.
