Jerron Paxton
Outline
Jerron Paxton is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter whose music reaches back in time and place to the American South of the early to mid 20th century. He was born in Los Angeles and is based in New York City currently, but has family ties to Louisiana, which has clearly shaped his musical direction. He likes to slip between old-timey folk and old-timey blues along with some cajun and ragtime in the mix. His vocal timbre and delivery fit perfectly into that classic mold as well. Altogether, listening to his work may make one unconsciously look for the usual tape hiss and crackle that goes with old Smithsonian field recordings. His original compositions don't break that character at all, carrying the same spirit that gives his audience the illusion that they must have somehow stepped back in time.
