Jake Blount is a singer, banjo and fiddle player who is focused primarily on African American traditional folk music, specifically, blues, bluegrass, spirituals, and gospel. His selection often goes back to early to mid 20th century, including songs of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bessie Jones, and Leadbelly, His catalog also contains traditional songs that go further back in time. He works as a cultural curator in a way, blowing the dust off of these gems and giving them back to the public with a modern spin in some cases, or stay closer to their roots but present them with enthusiasm and a sense of immediacy. His music is vibrant, exciting, and feels true to its source. His 2022 album The New Faith connects the dots across different eras wit the help of hip-hop artist Demeanor, who appears as a guest on some of the songs.
