Elephant Stone is an indie band based in Montreal whose music floats between rock and pop, while also incorporating elements of psychedelic music, '60s British invasion esthetics, and traditional Indian music. Their songs often tend to be catchy pop numbers built on immediately accessible melodic hooks. Bassist, singer, and band leader Rishi Dhir also plays the sitar, but does this in a way that infuses Indian motifs and textures into his otherwise straight western rock/pop tunes rather than a short cut to suggest psychedelia. The said psychedelia comes mostly from the sound effects the band employs around the guitars, studio effects, and Dhir's vocal delivery style. Stone Roses is a good point of comparison from that angle. Their arrangements often seem to have a somewhat Beatlesque quality.
