Arsenal Mikebe

Arsenal Mikebe is a trio of master percussionists based in Kampala, Uganda, who use electronic and acoustic instruments to create layered beats with strong melodic phrasing. In addition to their often synth-based ambient effects, they also add some background vocals into the mix to carry some of the melodic load. Even then, they have a way of executing those vocals in a way that blends them into their rhythmic tapestry. The overall texture of their music is not too far off from techno in terms of its sound and feel, though perhaps not in style. The intricate nature of African drumming tradition is the guiding force behind their music.
