Pylon Reenactment Society came to being as a tribute/cover band for the Athens, Georgia based post-punk band Pylon that was active in the early '80s. It was formed by vocalist Vanessa Briscoe Hay, who actually happens to be the the lead singer of the original Pylon, all of which also explains the band's name. When they began to write new songs soon after, they were mostly following their precursor's stylistic blueprint, adopting the same kind of jangly upbeat sound and angular guitars that comfortably fit in the mold of bands like Gang of Four, Pylon's contemporaries back in the day. There are also some common threads between them and another Athens native, B52s, particularly in terms of their lively texture and tone.
