Fatima Al Qadiri
Outline
Fatima Al Qadiri is a vocalist, producer, composer, and an electronic music artist with strong ambient tendencies. She was born in Senegal and raised in Kuwait; she worked out of New York City for a while but is currently based in Los Angeles. Her work incorporates both religious and secular Arabic musical traditions, as well as a variety of western musical forms, including classical and medieval elements, folk, and occasional club beats. She also stretched in the direction of East Asian tones in her first full length album, Asiatisch (2014). Her music tends to be quite gentle, highly creative, and always meticulously constructed. Her arrangements are usually stripped down direct. It is not unusual for her to conceive of her albums as abstract musical thought-pieces aligned around some core theme.
She released some of her earlier work under the name, Ayshay.
She is also a member of the group Future Brown, with J-Cush, Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda.
She is also a visual and conceptual artist, and part of the GCC art collective (Gulf Cooperation Council).
